OpenCode vs Command Code: Two Answers to Terminal-First Agent Coding

OpenCode is an MIT-licensed harness that connects 75+ providers and charges nothing for the software. Command Code is a hosted agent built around open models, per-project "taste" learning and a credit subscription starting at $1/month. Both are terminal-first, and both can run DeepSeek V4.1 Flash. They differ in who owns the model relationship.

OpenCode: own the stack

  • Provider-agnostic: Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, local models via Models.dev.
  • Config is a committed opencode.json; the model id is provider/model.
  • Zero software cost means the entire budget goes to inference, which is ideal for heavy users who are willing to manage keys and rate limits.
  • Trade-off: you own retries, spend limits and provider outages.

Command Code: own the workflow

  • Hosted credits with per-model allowances and a live model catalog; cmd --list-models prints the current ids.
  • "Taste" learning derives project conventions from your existing code and applies them to future edits.
  • Go at $1/month is the lowest-cost entry point in our plans dataset; Pro at $20/month adds premium Claude, GPT and Gemini models.
  • Trade-off: credits expire monthly, and premium models carry per-model caps.

DeepSeek peak scheduling applies to both

DeepSeek V4.1 Flash costs $0.15/M input and $0.60/M output off-peak, doubling to $0.30/M and $1.20/M during the two weekday peak windows (01:00–04:00 and 06:00–10:00 UTC). Weekends are fully off-peak. The difference is material for long refactors that re-send repository context on every turn, which is exactly the workload both of these agents are built for.
