Claude Pro vs Claude Max
Short answer. Claude Max costs $100 a month for 5× Claude Pro's usage, so each unit of usage costs the same as on Pro. On top of that it adds $100 a month of API credit for the Claude Platform, separate from subscription usage, plus priority access. Stay on Pro until you hit its limits in most weeks. Pro can also be billed annually at $16.67 a month; Max is monthly only.

Choose Claude Pro if
- You hit the usage limits in some weeks but not most.
- You want annual billing: $16.67 a month, 17% less than monthly.
- You have no use for API credit outside Claude Code and the Claude apps.
Choose Claude Max if
- You hit Pro's limits in most weeks. Claude Max raises both the five-hour and the weekly limit (5x Pro usage every 5 hours and every week).
- You would pay for the Claude API anyway: the $100 monthly credit can go to your own apps and scripts.
- You use Claude Fable 5.1 often. On Pro it draws on usage credits; on Max it is included.
